Postpartum RN – Night Shift
Position Overview
Join the postpartum and nursery team on a night shift (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM). You'll care for mothers and their newborns, manage routine postpartum recovery, and provide skilled newborn assessments and procedures in a collaborative, family-centered environment.
Position Details
- Shift: 3x12-hour nights (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks
- Schedule: Weekend coverage required; must work 3 of 5 holidays
- Floating: Within scope of practice as needed
- On-Call: No
- Orientation: 24 hours
Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of postpartum RN experience in a hospital setting
- Active California RN License (no pending or temporary licenses)
- BLS and NRP certifications required
- Flu vaccine required (no exemptions)
- Experience with electronic health records required
Clinical Scope
- Postpartum assessment: fundal checks, lochia monitoring, incision care, pain management
- Newborn care: vital signs, assessment, feeding support, circumcision care
- Specialized care: low birth weight infants, multiple births, critical congenital heart defect screening
- Procedures: newborn screening, bilirubin blood draws, phototherapy, IV management
- Patient education: breastfeeding, car seat safety, discharge teaching
Preferred Experience
- Level 1 Nursery background
- Charge nurse experience
- Prior travel nursing
Submission Requirements
- Two supervisor references from employment within the past 12 months
- Valid permanent California RN license at time of application
