Outpatient Surgery — Pre-Op Registered Nurse

Location: San Luis Obispo, CA

Shift & Schedule:

• 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM (12-hour shifts)
• 3 shifts per week
• Monday–Friday, variable days on a 6-week rotating schedule
• No call required

Contract Duration: 13 weeks

About the Role

You'll provide pre- and post-operative care for patients across all ages—infants, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric—in a fast-paced outpatient surgery environment. Your responsibilities include technical nursing skills, patient assessment, ECG interpretation, pre- and post-operative education, and discharge planning.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess and recognize symptoms of cardiac or respiratory distress and other emergencies
• Interpret ECG rhythms and manage care during life-threatening events
• Provide phase two post-operative recovery care
• Review patient medical histories and diagnostic data
• Identify abnormal findings and communicate with the care team
• Educate patients before and after procedures

Required Qualifications

• Associate Degree in Nursing (A.S.) or equivalent; Bachelor's Degree preferred
• Current RN license in the state of practice
• Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications
• Minimum 2 years recent pre-operative/perioperative nursing experience

Preferred Qualifications

• 1+ year experience in pre- and post-operative diagnostic cath lab
• 6+ months medical-surgical nursing experience within the last 2 years
