ICU Travel Nurse — Night Shift | San Diego Area, CA
This is a 13-week travel contract in a high-acuity ICU serving adult and geriatric patients across a multi-campus health system. The position works nights on a 3x12-hour schedule (19:00–07:30).
Schedule & Coverage
- 4 weekend shifts per 4-week cycle
- At least one holiday shift, including the holiday weekend
- Float requirement: may float to Med/Surg or Telemetry units (not the ED); occasional float to another campus based on need
- 36-hour orientation
Clinical Scope
This ICU manages complex, high-acuity patients including those with traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, post-craniotomy and post-neurosurgery needs, CVA/acute stroke, multisystem organ failure, and cardiac and respiratory compromise. Key skills include:
- Ventilator management, BiPAP/CPAP, and high-flow nasal cannula
- Arterial line, central line, EVD, lumbar drain, and ICP monitoring
- CVVHD/CRRT, IV insulin protocols, and continuous paralytics/sedation
- Titration of vasopressors and cardiac drips
- Post-cardiac cath care, sheath removal, and procedural sedation
- Chest tube assistance, fresh tracheostomy care, and blood product administration
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- Active California RN license (Temp or Perm) required at time of submission
- Certifications: AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, NIHSS, TNCC
- Electronic health record proficiency required within the last 6 months of work history
- 1 supervisory reference required
- No candidates residing within 100 miles of the facility
