Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) | Reston, VA

13-Week Contract | Days | 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM

This CVICU position supports a newly launched cardiac surgery program, offering nurses the opportunity to be part of a growing, specialized team focused on high-acuity post-cardiac surgical care.

Unit Overview

The unit operates under a primary nursing model with unit secretary and tech support. Care is centered on fresh cardiac surgery recovery, with intensive monitoring and intervention from the immediate post-operative period through POD 1–3.

Schedule

  • Three 12-hour day shifts per week (36 guaranteed hours)
  • Three weekend shifts every four weeks
  • Floating may occur at the same patient ratio as the primary unit

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 1–2 years of experience caring for fresh cardiac surgery patients, including direct primary recovery
  • Active ACLS certification
  • Proficiency with intra-aortic balloon pump and Impella devices
  • Experience with hemodynamic monitoring platforms (Hemosphere or Acumen)

Clinical Scope

  • Hemodynamic monitoring and mechanical circulatory support
  • Management of complex post-cardiac surgery complications

Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs
