Med Surg Tele

Med/Surg & Telemetry RN — Bakersfield, CA | 13-Week Contract

This is a fast-paced, mixed Med/Surg and Telemetry unit with high surgical volume and frequent admissions and discharges. The clinical environment is busy and rewarding, with a warm and welcoming nursing team.

Shift & Schedule

• 12-hour days, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
• Every other weekend requirement (4 shifts per 4-week schedule)
• Participation in holiday rotation (1 major, 1 minor holiday)
• Strict attendance policy; punctuality is essential
• Block scheduling not guaranteed

Required Certifications

• BLS, ACLS, NIHSS

Clinical Scope

• Mixed Med/Surg and Telemetry patient assignment (ratios vary by mix)
• Patient population includes acute/chronic medical conditions, post-surgical patients (bariatric and total joint — comfort with these populations required), and stroke patients
• Set-rate drips: Cardizem, Amiodarone, Heparin
• Must be able to independently read and interpret all cardiac rhythms
• Respiratory support (CPAP/BiPAP) managed by on-site RT (24/7)
• Hospitalist/intensivist available; on call after hours
• Pharmacy support available 24/7

Float Requirements

• Travelers are first to float — may float to other Med/Surg or Telemetry units, ICU (for Med/Surg holds), or the ED (for Tele holds)

Orientation

• Typically 1–3 shifts depending on system experience

Scrubs

• Navy blue only; jackets and undershirts must be navy, white, or black

Guaranteed Hours: 36 per week

Contract Duration: 13 weeks
