Behavioral Health RN – 12-Hour Nights | Council Bluffs, IA
13-Week Contract | Start Date: October 26, 2026
This inpatient behavioral health position covers a unified staffing model across adult and pediatric psychiatric units. Staff primarily work with adult patients but may rotate to the pediatric unit as needed. Both units share a collaborative, cross-trained team approach.
Shift & Schedule
- 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (12-hour nights)
- Every other weekend required
- Every other holiday required
- Guaranteed 36 hours per week
Patient Population & Clinical Scope
Patients present with a broad range of behavioral health diagnoses including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation. No drip titration is required on this unit. Nurses manage BiPAP, CPAP, and supplemental oxygen as needed. RNs round every two hours and assist with admits and discharges.
Key Requirements
- Active RN license (willing to wait for license)
- BLS (AHA) required
- Strong de-escalation skills and therapeutic communication are essential
- Ability to manage 6–7 patients independently, including admissions and discharges
- Artificial nails are not permitted in patient care areas
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to qualify; driver's license required at submission
- Candidates may not hold concurrent employment (full-time, part-time, or PRN) at any affiliated system facility
Orientation
One shift oriented to the adult unit, one shift to the pediatric unit. A mandatory open-book skills exam is administered during orientation; a minimum score of 90% is required to continue the contract.
