Progressive Care / Stepdown RN — Travel Nursing | Des Moines, IA
Shift: Nights, 4x12s | 48 hrs/week (36 hrs/week may be accommodated)
Contract Duration: 13 weeks | Start Date: October 26
Scrubs: Navy Blue
Unit Overview
This progressive care unit manages a high-acuity neurological and surgical patient population, including heavy neuro trauma, neurosurgery, craniectomy, and orthopedic cases. Nurses should be comfortable with telemetry monitoring, chest tube management, and drip administration including Heparin, PCA, and 3% Sodium (no titration required). Float rotation across multiple campuses is required.
Schedule & On-Call
- Night shift, 4x12s
- Weekend rotation: every other or every third weekend, depending on staffing/census
- Holiday rotation: 1–2 of the 3 upcoming winter holidays required unless the unit is closed
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 24 months of recent Med/Surg, IMCU, Stepdown, or Progressive Care experience
- Neurology/neurosurgery and orthopedic care experience
- EKG/telemetry strip reading experience
- Drip experience: Heparin, PCA, 3% Sodium/Na
- Active Iowa RN license or compact/multistate license at time of submission
- BLS and ACLS (AHA or ARC)
- Must have completed at least one prior travel assignment within the past 12 months
Preferred Qualifications
- Trauma care experience
- NIHSS certification (can be obtained during onboarding)
- De-escalation certification (CPI, MOAB, MAB, or SAMA)
- Telemetry, chest tube, and airvo equipment experience
Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility. Professional reference from a charge nurse, supervisor, or nurse manager within the past 24 months preferred.
