Med/Surg – Infectious Disease | Night Shift | Jackson, MS
This 13-week contract covers a Med/Surg unit with an Infectious Disease focus, also managing general Med/Surg overflow. The unit operates with telemetry capability on all patients, supported by a central monitoring station that communicates directly with bedside nurses.
Shift & Schedule
- 12-hour nights, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- 36 guaranteed hours per week
- Every other weekend or two weekends per month (may flex to meet department needs)
- Holiday coverage required: candidates must be available for two major and two minor holidays
- No on-call or standby requirement
Clinical Scope
- Patient population includes infectious disease, COVID-positive patients, and Med/Surg overflow
- Comfortable managing lines and chest tubes is essential
- Drip titration includes heparin; amiodarone may be initiated prior to transfer to a cardiac unit
- Respiratory support includes CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen with RT support overnight
- Float responsibilities within Med/Surg units based on skillset; higher-acuity patients assigned to core staff
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license (Mississippi or compact)
- BLS and ACLS required
- High-acuity experience strongly preferred — candidates should be comfortable in a fast-paced environment with a high surgical and critically ill patient volume
- Solid color scrubs required
Fingerprinting Note
Fingerprint clearance is required prior to start. In-person processing takes approximately 48 hours; remote processing requires 10–14 days. Plan accordingly when confirming your start date.
BSN not required.
