Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) – Travel RN
Nights | 13-Week Contract | Parkersburg, WV
This CVICU position supports a mixed-acuity unit caring for both step-down and ICU-status patients, including fresh post-operative cardiac surgery cases. The unit manages a high-acuity, complex cardiac and thoracic patient population across all stages of care.
Shift & Schedule
- 12-hour nights, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Every other weekend required
- Holidays as needed; no on-call requirement
- 36 guaranteed hours per week
Patient Population & Clinical Scope
Patients include post-op CABG and valve surgery, NSTEMI/STEMI, cardiogenic shock, pulmonary embolism, atrial fibrillation, heart blocks, cardiac arrest, and thoracic surgery (VATS, lobectomy). RNs titrate a full range of vasoactive, antiarrhythmic, sedation, and anticoagulation drips independently.
Required Skills & Experience
- Fresh open heart experience strongly preferred; minimum experience with >6-hour post-op open heart patients required
- CRRT, arterial lines, mediastinal/chest tubes, and ventilator management
- Temporary pacemakers and post-permanent pacer care
- Acute MI pre/post-cath experience
- Hypothermia protocol experience
- IABP/Impella and Swan-Ganz hemodynamic monitoring experience preferred
Certifications Required
- BLS (AHA) and ACLS (AHA)
Unit Support
- Intensivist/hospitalist in-house at all times
- Respiratory therapy on-site 24/7
- Monitor techs manage telemetry off-unit; RNs address alarms and read strips every 4 hours
- 1–2 PCTs per shift
Float & Dress Code
- Travelers float first, primarily to ACU and ICU; Med-Surg/Tele float possible (max 6 patients)
- Royal blue scrubs required
Orientation: One week, including unit-based clinical orientation
A valid driver's license copy is required at submission. Candidate must reside or be willing to comply with a 50-mile radius requirement.
