Parkersburg, WV | 13-Week Contract | Days
This acute care unit specializes in infectious disease management, with all private rooms to support strict isolation protocols. Patients present with a wide range of diagnoses including MRSA, C-diff, COVID-19, and other infectious and communicable conditions. The unit is supported by a Charge Nurse around the clock and two CNAs per shift.
Shift & Schedule
- 12-hour days, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
- Every-other-weekend required (Days: Saturday/Sunday)
- Holiday coverage based on unit need; travelers may be expected to work
- Block scheduling available when unit needs are met
- 36 guaranteed hours per week
Clinical Details
- Patient assignment: 5–6 patients per RN (lower acuity ratios for COVID patients)
- Medications include heparin, IV antibiotics, and standard Med-Surg drips — no cardiac drip titration required
- Patients may require CPAP, BiPAP, or high-flow oxygen; respiratory therapy manages this equipment
- Remote telemetry monitoring available; RNs are not required to read or interpret strips
Float & Cancellation
- Travelers float first to other Med-Surg units; if floated to a telemetry unit, assignments are within RN skill set
- Up to 2 shifts may be cancelled per 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active RN license
- BLS (AHA) required
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- Strong Med-Surg and infectious disease / isolation precautions background
Orientation & Dress Code
- Orientation: one day of system training, one day with a preceptor, independent on day three
- Scrubs: royal blue; scrub jackets permitted but must be royal blue — no hoodies or non-scrub outerwear
