Telemetry / Medical-Surgical Float Nurse — San Pedro, CA
Day Shift | 3x12-Hour (07:00–19:00) | 13-Week Contract
This acute care opportunity places you on a telemetry unit managing adult and geriatric patients across a broad range of diagnoses, with a float requirement to a med-surg unit as needed. First-time travelers are welcome.
Patient Population & Clinical Scope
The unit cares for patients presenting with neurological (CVA, TIA, seizure), cardiac (chest pain, CHF, uncontrolled AFib), respiratory (ia, COVID, COPD), GI/GU/endocrine, and surgical diagnoses including orthopedic and general surgery cases. Skin and wound care patients are also part of the census.
Required Clinical Skills — Non-Negotiable
- Ventilated patient care and tracheostomy management are mandatory; candidates without this experience will not be considered
- Tracheostomy care/management
- Cardiac telemetry interpretation and dysrhythmia management
- BiPAP/CPAP and high-flow nasal cannula management
- Central line, PICC, and peripheral line care
- ABG interpretation
- IV insulin and heparin protocols
- Pre/post hemodialysis management
- Wound care and wound vac
Schedule & Requirements
- Start date: ASAP
- Shift: Days, every-other-weekend requirement; no on-call
- Float: Med-surg as needed
- Guaranteed hours: Facility may call off once per two-week period
- Scrub color: Any
Certifications Required
- ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
Minimum Qualifications
- 1 year of RN experience
- Valid compact or California RN license (must be in hand at submission)
- All requested time off must be submitted at time of application
