PCU / Stepdown
Progressive Care Unit (PCU) — Telemetry/Pulmonary Step-Down | Overland Park, KS
This 13-week contract places you in a Telemetry and Pulmonary Step-Down unit caring for patients with moderate physiologic instability. The unit bridges the gap between ICU and med/surg, focusing on cardiac and pulmonary patient populations.
Shift & Schedule
- Days: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
- 36 guaranteed hours per week
- Self-scheduling; 3 weekend shifts required per 4-week schedule
- No on-call requirements
- Float policy: travelers float first
Patient Population & Clinical Scope
Patients include those with COPD exacerbation, ia, CHF, and tracheostomy management — hemodynamically stable but requiring close cardiac and respiratory monitoring. Key nursing responsibilities include:
- Continuous cardiac monitoring
- Vital signs and blood glucose monitoring every 4 hours
- Neurological monitoring including NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Oxygen therapy: nasal cannula, BIPAP/CPAP (up to 80% of patients), and low-flow high-flow therapy
Unit Support
The unit is supported by two Patient Care Technicians and a Unit Secretary per shift.
Required Certifications & Credentials
- ACLS
- BLS
- NIHSS certification
Dress Code
Royal blue scrubs required
