MedSurg/Telemetry RN – Night Shift | San Luis Obispo, CA
13-Week Contract | 36 Hours Guaranteed/Week
This position supports a two-area MedSurg/Telemetry unit serving a diverse patient population across surgical, orthopedic, medical, and cardiac stepdown acuity levels.
Shift & Schedule
- 12-hour nights, 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM
- Every other weekend (4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule)
- Holidays rotate with permanent staff
- Start date: October 26, 2026
Unit & Patient Population
The unit operates across two areas. One area focuses on surgical, orthopedic, and general medical patients, including those on heparin drips. The second area carries higher cardiac-focused acuity, functioning at a stepdown level, with patients including post-cath, post-pacemaker, post-PCI, post-TAVR (day 1+), post-CABG (day 1+), sepsis, and respiratory distress cases.
Drips Managed
Amiodarone, heparin, cardizem, fixed-rate insulin, nitroglycerin, and dopamine (renal dosing only)
Clinical Support
- Respiratory therapy available 24/7
- Monitor technician on unit; nurses read telemetry strips
- BiPAP/CPAP possible; no ventilators
- Hospitalist/intensivist on call after hours
- No IV team on unit
Float Requirement
Nurses float between the two unit areas as needed.
Requirements
- Active RN license
- Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
- BSN not required

- Cancellation policy: Up to 4 shifts may be canceled over a 13-week assignment
