Emergency Room Nurse – 12-Hour Shifts
Position Overview
Join the emergency department at the facility in Santa Cruz, CA, for a 13-week contract assignment. This is a fast-paced ER environment where you'll care for acute and emergent patients across all age groups, including a significant homeless population. The department averages 150 patient visits daily.
Clinical Details
- Unit: Emergency Room with 24+ beds, including mid-level fast-track area
- Patient Population: Adult and pediatric acute/emergent cases; higher-acuity patients are transferred to outside facilities
- Typical Cases: General ER presentations; short-term psychiatric holds
- Staffing Support: Hospitalist and intensivist on-site 24/7; respiratory therapy available 24/7; daytime pharmacy coverage; charge nurse on duty
Schedule & Requirements
- Shifts: 12-hour rotating shifts with varying start times (mids: 10a, 11a, 1p, 3p; nights: 4p, 5p, 7p; days: 7a, 8a, 9a)
- Hours: 36 guaranteed hours per week
- Weekends: Every other weekend required
- Holidays: Integrated into permanent staff rotation
- Flexibility: No float requirements; block scheduling cannot be accommodated
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license
- Minimum 2 years of emergency nursing experience
- BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications
- Moderate conscious sedation competency testing (must be completed prior to start)
- Navy scrubs required
- Ready to work independently in a high-volume setting
