Medical/Surgical Oncology Telemetry RN — Bryan, TX
This 42-week contract places you on an acute care Med/Surg Oncology/Telemetry unit managing a diverse patient population. The unit provides non-cardiac telemetry monitoring alongside care for oncology, hospice, and general medical patients.
Shift & Schedule
- 12-hour days, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
- Every other weekend required
- 48-hour weekly guarantee (36-hour guarantee may be considered)
- Weekend requirement: 8–9 shifts per 6-week schedule
- Holiday requirement: 2 major, 1 minor
- Self-scheduling and block scheduling available
Patient Population & Clinical Scope
Common diagnoses include COPD, sepsis, ia, UTI, altered mental status, pancreatitis, diverticulitis, renal failure, hyperkalemia, and a wide range of cancer diagnoses including hospice patients.
Required Skills
- Telemetry monitoring and strip reading (centralized monitoring available; RN must be able to read independently)
- Tracheostomy and PEG care
- Foley, central line, and NGT management
- IV therapy, O2 management, medication administration
- Patient assessment, care planning, and teaching
Required Certifications
- BLS (AHA)
- NIHSS
- Must pass a Basic Dysrhythmia exam (83% minimum) prior to contract signing; three attempts permitted
Additional Details
- Float requirement: first to float; may float between two campuses approximately 16 minutes apart
- Nurse aide support available on unit
- Charge nurse carries an assignment
- Orientation: 3–6 shifts
- Scrubs: Navy (undershirts must be navy; optional navy scrub jacket)
- Oncology experience helpful but not required
Candidates must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility within the past year.
