Progressive Care Unit — Travel RN
Chattanooga, TN | Nights (19:00–07:00) | 13-Week Contract
This collaborative Progressive Care Unit cares for a diverse, high-acuity intermediate population with a strong cardiac focus. CV surgery patients step down directly from the ICU to this unit, so comfort with complex post-operative management is essential.
Patient Population & Clinical Scope
Conditions managed include sepsis, stroke, MI, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, heart blocks, post-cardiac catheterization, AKI/CKD, DKA, CVA, acute and chronic respiratory failure, GI bleed, ia, post-op CABG and aortic valve surgery, post-thoracic, and post-neurosurgery patients.
Drips & Procedures
- Vasoactive and cardiac drips: Dopamine, Dobutamine, Nitroglycerin, Heparin, Cardizem, Lidocaine, Milrinone, Amiodarone, Cardene, Labetalol, Insulin, and Precedex titration
- Procedures: IV insertion, Foley placement, DHT/NG placement, chest tube management, tracheostomy care, CVC management, wound vac management, DKA management, EKGs, patient ambulation, and ADL assistance
Shift & Schedule Details
- 36-hour guarantee; 48-hour guarantee available
- 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
- Self-scheduling with block scheduling available for nights
- Travel RNs float first, on a rotating basis by oldest float date
Requirements
- Active RN license
- BLS and ACLS required
- Cardiac/telemetry experience required; PCU and/or critical care experience strongly preferred
- Proficiency in advanced skills: chest tube management, tracheostomy care, CVC management, EKG interpretation
Dress Code: Navy scrubs
Head-to-toe assessments are documented every 6 hours. Night shift has experienced RN support, including staff with ICU backgrounds.
