Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) RN — Travel Contract
Des Moines, IA | Nights | 13-Week Contract
This PICU travel assignment places you on a specialized pediatric critical care unit caring for critically ill and injured infants, children, and adolescents. The unit is staffed by pediatric critical care physicians and features all private patient rooms with a strong family-centered care philosophy.
Shift Details
- Friday, Saturday, Sunday nights | 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM | 3×12-hour shifts (36 hrs/week)
- Holiday rotation required (1–2 summer holidays)
- On-call minimal, as needed; every 4th weekend
Float Requirements
Candidates must be willing to float to NICU, General Pediatrics, and the ED as helping hands. NICU floats typically involve feeder/grower assignments — not the highest-acuity neonates.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 24 months of current PICU / Pediatric Intensive Care RN experience
- Active Iowa RN license or compact/multistate license at time of submission
- BLS (AHA) and PALS (AHA) — required
- Willingness to float to NICU and ED — required
Preferred Experience
- Mechanical ventilators and high-flow oxygen therapy
- IV infusion pumps and feeding pumps
- Skills checklist specific to PICU/Pediatric Intensive Care

- PICU-specific skills checklist
- Professional reference from charge nurse, supervisor, or nurse manager within the past 24 months (preferred)
- Valid driver's license
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
