Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) – Travel RN

Des Moines, IA | Nights | 13-Week Contract

This PICU travel opportunity places you in an all-private-room pediatric critical care unit staffed by pediatric intensivists. The unit manages critically ill and injured infants, children, and adolescents across a broad acuity spectrum, with a dedicated pediatric transport program serving patients transferred from across the region.

Shift & Schedule

• Nights, 3×12-hour shifts (36 hrs/week)
• Start date: October 26, 2026
• Holiday rotation required (1–2 summer holidays)
• On-call: as needed (minimal)
• Weekend rotation: every 4th weekend

Float Requirements

• Must be willing to float to NICU (feeders and growers; lower-acuity NICU patients — not the most critical neonates), general pediatrics, and ED patient holds

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 24 months of PICU / Pediatric Intensive Care experience
• Active Iowa RN license or compact/multistate license at time of submission
• BLS (AHA) required
• PALS (AHA) required
• PICU-specific skills checklist

Preferred Experience

• Ventilator and high-flow oxygen management
• IV pump and enteral feeding pump operation

Additional Notes

• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
• Professional reference from a charge nurse, supervisor, or nurse manager within the past 24 months preferred
