Psychiatric Nurse – Adult Inpatient Unit | Kansas City, MO

Shift: Days, 07:00–19:00 | 4 x 12-hour shifts

Contract Duration: 13 weeks

Guaranteed Hours: 48 per week

About the Unit

This adult inpatient psychiatric unit provides structured, therapeutic care for patients experiencing acute mental health crises, psychiatric disorders, and substance use challenges. The clinical team emphasizes patient-centered communication, individualized care planning, and consistent monitoring in a stable, focused environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough psychiatric assessments including patient histories, behavioral observations, and mental status evaluations
• Develop and implement individualized care plans with measurable goals and evaluated outcomes
• Administer and monitor psychotropic medications, identifying side effects and adverse reactions
• Provide crisis intervention for patients presenting with suicidal ideation or aggression, using de-escalation techniques and medication management
• Monitor vital signs, mental status changes, and overall physical and psychological symptoms throughout the shift
• Apply therapeutic communication strategies to build trust and rapport with patients

Schedule & Float

• Coverage required seven days a week, including weekends; days off are not guaranteed unless specified in the contract
• Floated based on greatest clinical need

Requirements

• Active RN license
• BLS certification (required)
• CPI certification — active Blue Card required at time of submission
• Experience with psychiatric patient populations, crisis intervention, and psychotropic medication management
