Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit
Position Overview
The facility seeks an experienced Registered Nurse for its Progressive Care Unit (PCU). You'll provide nursing care to moderate-acuity patients requiring closer monitoring than medical-surgical units but below ICU level. This is a 13-week contract position working nights (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM).
Key Responsibilities
- Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs; identify and respond promptly to patient condition changes
- Assess and manage patients transitioning from ICU or at risk of clinical deterioration
- Administer medications, including select IV drips, per physician orders
- Manage a moderate patient load (typically 3–4 patients) with attention to acuity and individual needs
- Respond to rapid response and code interventions as required
- Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams on plan of care
- Educate patients and families on condition, treatment, and recovery
- Document assessments, interventions, and patient response accurately in the electronic medical record
- Ensure infection control and fall prevention protocols are consistently followed
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license in Kentucky (or valid compact license)
- Nursing Diploma or Associate's Degree in Nursing
- 2+ years of acute care RN experience (1+ year PCU/step-down experience required)
- 2+ years of electronic medical record (EMR) experience
- BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
- Demonstrated ability with telemetry monitoring and moderate-acuity patient management
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN) certification
