PCU / Step-Down Travel Nurse — Winston-Salem, NC
This high-acuity step-down unit operates with an intensity closer to an ICU. The patient population spans adolescents, adults, and geriatrics and includes post-rapid-response patients, respiratory distress, unstable hemodynamics, withdrawal, GI bleeds, and post-operative cases covering GYN, GU, GI, thoracotomies, neuro, and ortho surgeries, as well as pre/post OB patients with complications.
Unit Scope
- Vasoactive and cardiac drips titrated on the unit (insulin, Cardizem, Nitro, Precedex, Cardene, Levophed, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Neo); one pressor drip per patient maximum before ICU transfer
- Arterial lines, BiPAP/CPAP, chest tubes, tracheostomy management; no ventilators on the unit
- Bedside telemetry monitoring with remote backup; nurses must independently recognize and manage dysrhythmias
Scheduling
- 4x12-hour day shifts; 36 or 48 hours per week available
- Every other weekend required; no block scheduling
- Float to sister ICCU unit as needed
- RTO pre-approved prior to signing; no additional RTO requests accepted after booking
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of PCU/DOU/IMC/Step-Down experience
- Strong drip titration and arterial line experience required
- Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
- Must pass EKG assessment prior to start date
- NC or Compact RN license (pending accepted at submission)
- Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
Scrubs: Navy, white, or a combination of both
