Progressive Care / Step-Down Travel RN — Days | Winston-Salem, NC
This high-acuity step-down unit operates with the intensity of an ICU, caring for patients across adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations. The unit manages complex cases including post-rapid-response patients, respiratory distress, unstable hemodynamics, withdrawal, GI bleeds, and post-operative patients recovering from GYN, GU, GI, thoracic, neurological, and orthopedic surgeries, as well as pre/post-OB patients with complications.
Shift & Schedule
- Days: 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM | 3x12-hour shifts
- 36 or 48 hours per week available
- Every other weekend required
- No block scheduling; schedule is manager-created
- Floating required to a sister ICCU unit as needed
- No on-call required
Contract Details
- Duration: 16 weeks
- Start Date: October 26, 2026
Clinical Skills Required
- Arterial line insertion and management
- Titration of vasoactive and cardiac drips (Cardizem, Nitro, Precedex, Cardene, Levophed, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Neo, IV insulin)
- Conscious sedation
- Management and interpretation of dysrhythmias; bedside telemetry monitoring
- Chest tube management, tracheostomy care, BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC
- Central line, PICC line, and peripheral IV care
- Blood product administration, heparin protocols
- Rapid Response Team experience
- No ventilators on unit
Required Certifications
- ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
- Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start
Additional Details
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required; first-time travelers accepted
- NC or Compact license required (pending acceptable at submission)
- Scrubs: Navy, white, or a combination
- Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
- COVID-19 vaccine not required
