Medical-Surgical RN — Travel Contract | Wilmington, NC
This Med/Surg unit cares for adult and geriatric patients with general medical and surgical needs. The unit does not manage PCU-level patients, making this a strong fit for experienced Med/Surg nurses, including first-time travelers.
Shift & Schedule
- 13-week contract; 36- and 48-hour weekly contracts accepted; longer contracts (up to 26 weeks) considered
- Every other weekend required
- Holiday coverage required (must work 2 of 3 major holidays)
- Call required as needed
Clinical Scope
- Adult and geriatric general Med/Surg population
- Heparin drips, wound vac dressing changes, high-flow oxygen
- Occasional short-term BiPAP with respiratory support (no additional training required)
- EKG interpretation; must pass EKG assessment prior to start
Float Requirements
- Float to similar units and alternate care locations with inpatient holding
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license (NC or Compact; pending license accepted at submission)
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg experience
- BLS required
- CPI preferred
- Charge nurse experience preferred (especially for night shift)
Additional Details
- Scrubs: Navy
- Orientation: 24 hours
- Mandatory monthly unit team meetings (4th Wednesday, January–October; 3rd Wednesday in November–December at 17:30)
- Pre-start online modules required (approximately 8–10 hours, non-billable)
- Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions considered); COVID-19 vaccine not required
- RTO must be pre-approved; no additional RTO requests after signing
