Medical-Surgical Oncology RN
Shift: Days, 3x12-hour (6:45 AM – 7:15 PM)
Contract Duration: 13 weeks (extensions available up to 26 weeks)
Start Date: October 26, 2026
About the Role
The facility's oncology unit provides direct care to patients receiving chemotherapy and managing complex medical-surgical diagnoses. You'll work in a collaborative, supportive environment focused on chemotherapy administration, symptom management, and post-treatment monitoring.
Clinical Scope
- Administer and monitor chemotherapy and biotherapy (IV, PO, injection)
- Manage patients with cancer, sepsis, AKI, septic shock, pain, and other acute conditions
- Perform port access and blood draws from central lines
- Manage PICC lines, peripheral lines, chest tubes, surgical drains, and wound care
- Administer blood products, heparin drips, insulin, and oxygen therapy
- Monitor for chemotherapy side effects and complications
Requirements
- RN license (NC or Compact)
- BLS certification required
- ONS Fundamentals of Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy Administration (preferred; facility provides onsite training if not yet obtained)
- Minimum 2 years inpatient medical-surgical nursing experience
- First-time travelers welcome
- EKG testing required prior to start
Schedule & Staffing
- Every other weekend required
- Call required if scheduled shift is canceled
- Float to similar units and inpatient holding areas as needed
- Monthly staff meetings required
- May be assigned to Storm/Hurricane response team during catastrophic events
Orientation: 24 hours (2 shifts)
Scrubs: Navy blue and white
