PCU / Stepdown
This PCU/Neuro Stepdown position is a night shift role (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM) on a combined acute care and neurological stepdown unit. The contract runs 13 weeks with a start date of October 1, 2026, with guaranteed hours of 48 per week.
Unit Overview
The unit manages both acute care and neuro stepdown patients, making it an excellent fit for nurses with strong neuro or progressive care backgrounds. Clinical scope includes stroke care, lumbar punctures, chest tube management, tracheostomy care, BiPAP, high-flow oxygen, and titration of cardiac drips. The unit is staffed with a charge RN, one to two patient care techs, and a unit secretary.
Requirements
- Active RN license in Tennessee (or compact eligibility)
- BLS required for all candidates
- ACLS required for Neuro Stepdown coverage
- Strong acute care nursing fundamentals and time management skills
- Stepdown experience preferred for neuro stepdown assignments
- Critical thinking skills essential
Scheduling & Logistics
- 4 x 12-hour night shifts
- Weekend shifts required
- Float eligible after orientation (experienced nurses)
- Scrubs: black, any shade of blue or grey; any color on Fridays
Patient Experience
Bedside shift report, daily huddle participation, and genuine patient connection are expectations on this unit.
This unit is a strong stepping stone for nurses interested in advancing toward critical care. Weekend commitment and stepdown experience will make candidates most competitive for this role.
