Histotechnologist
Position Overview
The facility's anatomic pathology department seeks a certified histotechnologist to process and prepare tissue specimens for pathologist review. You will work independently and collaboratively to maintain accuracy, efficiency, and patient safety throughout the histological workflow.
Shift & Schedule
- Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:00 PM (8-hour day shift)
- 13-week contract
- Start date: October 1, 2026
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and process all tissue specimens; assign sequential accession numbers while maintaining absolute certainty of patient identification.
- Accurately record patient demographics, specimen source, and ordering physician/surgeon information.
- Assist the pathologist during gross examination by preparing labeled tissue cassettes and operating the tissue processor.
- Cut sections from embedded tissue blocks, perform routine and special histochemical stains, and deliver prepared slides to the pathologist in a timely manner.
- Prepare frozen sections immediately upon specimen arrival.
- Execute special staining procedures within pathologist-specified timeframes to support diagnostic reporting.
- Prepare anatomical materials for consultation or processing at outside laboratories as directed.
- Maintain organized, indexed filing systems for tissue slides and blocks; ensure proper storage rotation and retention compliance.
Requirements
- ASCP certification as a histotechnologist or equivalent credential
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety
- Ability to work independently and respond promptly to pathologist requests
