Intermediate Care Nurse – Night Shift
Position Overview
Join the intermediate care unit as a Registered Nurse providing specialized care to adult and geriatric patients with pulmonary, cardiac, and trauma diagnoses. This 13-week night shift assignment offers the opportunity to work with a dynamic team managing complex patients in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Shift & Schedule
- Shift: Night, 3x12-hour (19:00 – 07:00)
- Duration: 13 weeks
- Weekend Coverage: 6 weekend shifts per 6 weeks (Saturday or Sunday)
Clinical Scope
The unit specializes in advanced airway management and cardiac care. You'll care for patients on ventilators, with tracheostomies, on high-flow oxygen or BiPAP, and those requiring cardiac monitoring and medication management. Patient populations include those with acute and chronic pulmonary conditions, CHF, rule-out or post-MI, unstable angina, dysrhythmias, and post-cardiac procedures. The unit also manages medical/surgical overflow.
Required Qualifications
- Active VA or Compact License in hand at submission
- BLS & ACLS certification (cardiac telemetry background within past year)
- Minimum 2 years experience in PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown setting
- Ventilator experience required
- Comprehensive respiratory proficiency (high-flow nasal cannula, tracheostomy, BiPAP)
Key Skills
Dysrhythmia management, telemetry monitoring, ventilated patient care, central/peripheral/PICC line management, cardiac drip administration and titration, heparin protocols, tracheostomy care, high-flow oxygen, BiPAP/CPAP management, and isolation precautions.
Facility Requirements
- Navy blue scrubs
- Smoke/nicotine-free facility
- COVID-19 vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions available)
- Flu vaccine required during flu season (October 1 – March 31)
