PCU / Stepdown

PCU / Progressive Care RN — Night Shift | Des Moines, IA

13-Week Travel Contract | 4x12 Nights

This progressive care unit specializes in high-acuity neurological and orthopedic cases, including heavy neuro trauma, neurosurgery, craniectomy, and orthopedic patients. The position requires a confident, experienced traveler comfortable managing complex patients across a busy unit.

Schedule & Logistics

• Nights, 4x12s; 48 hrs/week (36 hrs/week may be accommodated upon request)
• Every other or every third weekend depending on staffing and census
• Holiday rotation required: 1–2 of 3 upcoming Winter holidays
• Float requirement: must be willing to float across multiple campuses
• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility

Clinical Requirements

• Minimum 24 months of Medical-Surgical, IMCU, Stepdown, or Progressive Care experience (required)
• Neurology/neurosurgery experience (required)
• Orthopedic experience (required)
• Trauma care experience (highly preferred)
• Drip experience: Heparin, PCA, 3% Sodium/Na — no titration (required)
• EKG/telemetry strip reading (required)
• Experience with chest tubes and high-flow respiratory support equipment (highly preferred)
• Must have completed at least one prior travel assignment within the last 12 months

Certifications & Licensure

• Active Iowa RN license or compact/multistate license (required at submission)
• BLS and ACLS — AHA or ARC (required)
• NIHSS (preferred; may be obtained during onboarding)
• De-escalation certification — CPI, MOAB, MAB, or SAMA (preferred)
