PCU / Stepdown

Surgical Stepdown RN — Intermediate Care | Boston, MA

13-Week Contract | 36 Hours Guaranteed/Week

This Surgical Stepdown / IMCU role supports a complex post-operative patient population transferred directly from the PACU or SICU. The unit manages intermediate-acuity cases across cardiothoracic surgery, vascular surgery, neurosurgery, trauma, and transplant, requiring confident, independent clinical judgment.

Shift Details

• 12-hour day/night rotation: 7:00 AM–7:30 PM and 7:00 PM–7:30 AM
• Every other weekend and every other holiday required
• 36-hour weekly guarantee

Required Qualifications

• 2+ years of recent acute care experience
• Surgical Stepdown / IMCU experience is required
• Ability to independently read and interpret telemetry rhythm strips
• ACLS certification
• More than one prior travel assignment
• Pre-assignment testing on Day 1: Telemetry and Critical Care Med assessments

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a tertiary care setting
• Previous permanent staff at this facility are not eligible

Clinical Environment

The unit provides intermediate care to post-surgical patients with high acuity needs, including telemetry monitoring and complex wound and hemodynamic management. Candidates should be comfortable with automated medication dispensing systems and a fast-paced, multi-specialty surgical population.
