ICU Registered Nurse — Night Shift | Sugar Land, TX
13-Week Contract | 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM | 36 Guaranteed Hours/Week
This ICU position manages high-acuity medical patients across a range of complex diagnoses, including CHF, DKA, respiratory failure, metabolic acidosis, renal failure, and encephalopathy. The unit is well-supported and fast-paced, making it an excellent fit for experienced critical care nurses.
Shift & Scheduling
- 12-hour nights, 7 PM – 7 AM; every other weekend (EOW)
- Self-scheduling; 6 weekend shifts per 6-week period
- 1 major and 1 minor holiday required (spring and fall)
- No call or standby requirement
- Floating is required
Clinical Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
- Must be proficient in ventilator management, drip titration, and DKA management
- RNs titrate cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation medications
- RNs troubleshoot respiratory equipment (ventilators, BiPAP, high-flow, and other modalities); RT is present on the unit 24/7
- Central monitoring at each nursing station; charge nurse and bedside nurses monitor strips
Staffing & Support
- Free charge nurse on every shift (no patient assignment)
- Intensivist/hospitalist coverage: NP in-house 24 hours, MD on-site days with on-call nights
- PCA support based on census
Certifications Required
- BLS and ACLS (AHA)
- CRRT & IABP training preferred but not required
