Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) – RN
Shift: 12-hour days, 7 a.m.–7 p.m. | Every other weekend required | 36 guaranteed hours/week
Contract: 13 weeks | Start: October 5, 2026
Unit Overview
The facility's SICU is a high-acuity unit caring for post-operative and critically ill surgical patients. You'll manage complex cases including liver and kidney transplants, vascular surgeries (endarterectomies, femoral-popliteal bypasses), ENT oncology procedures, abdominal surgeries, and patients requiring advanced airway management.
Clinical Scope
- Manage hemodynamically unstable patients on multiple vasoactive drips (vasopressin, epinephrine, Levophed, dobutamine, dopamine, heparin, sedatives, analgesics)
- Titrate medications per protocol
- Proficient with ventilators, chest tubes, surgical drains, and CRRT
- Read and interpret telemetry
- Early recognition of patient deterioration and clear escalation with providers
Required Credentials
- Current RN license
- BLS, ACLS, NIHSS certification
Staffing & Support
- Intensivist on unit 24/7; APPs in house around the clock
- Respiratory therapy 24/7
- Charge nurse on each shift
- No self-scheduling; scheduling based on unit needs
- Float requirements apply; other ICU experience valued
Expectations
- Flexible scheduling; no self-scheduling
- Openness to floating to other ICUs
- Weekend/holiday commitments
- 2 shifts of unit-specific orientation
Dress Code: Teal bottoms with coordinating black or printed scrub top; professional nails (no shellac, dip, or acrylics)
Ideal Candidate: 3+ years ICU experience, previous travel assignments, comfort in high-acuity, fast-paced environments.
