NICU Travel RN — Santa Rosa, CA
13-Week Contract | Night Shift | 4x12 Hours (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
This Level III NICU position supports a busy neonatal unit caring for premature and medically complex newborns. Nurses in this role attend high-risk deliveries, perform neonatal resuscitation, and manage admissions — candidates must be fully comfortable in all three areas.
Clinical Scope
The unit cares for neonates 27 weeks and above. For deliveries involving gestational age under 27 weeks, NICU RNs provide stabilization and facilitate transfer. Clinical responsibilities include management of:
- Respiratory distress syndrome, neonatal sepsis, meconium aspiration, and hyperbilirubinemia
- Umbilical catheters (UAC/UVC), arterial lines, central lines, and chest tubes
- Bubble CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, and oxygen delivery systems
- Phototherapy, gavage/nasogastric/nasojejunal feedings, and breastfeeding support
- Neonatal dosage calculations, surfactant and steroid administration
Interdisciplinary support includes respiratory therapy, pharmacy, social services, and interpretation services.
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of Level III NICU experience
- BLS and NRP certifications required
- Valid compact RN license in hand at time of submission
- First-time travelers considered; travel pairs not accepted
Scheduling & Expectations
- On-call and weekend shifts required
- Must commit to 3 of 5 holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day
- All RTO requests must be submitted at time of candidacy
- Float to nearby sister facilities may be required
- Scrub color: Royal blue or navy blue
Guaranteed Hours: 48 hours per two-week period (facility may call off 1 shift per 2-week cycle)
