NICU Registered Nurse — Night Shift | Lubbock, TX
This 13-week night shift contract (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 3x12-hour shifts) places you in a high-acuity neonatal intensive care unit caring for a complex neonatal population. The unit manages patients with prematurity, respiratory distress, hypoglycemia, sepsis, hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE), and a broad range of surgical diagnoses (all subspecialties excluding cardiac).
Shift & Schedule
- Nights: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM | 3x12-hour shifts
- Block scheduling required; self-scheduling model
- 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling period
- Holiday commitment required (3 of 5: Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day)
- Extended contracts beyond 13 weeks are welcomed
Clinical Scope
Nurses in this unit manage a wide range of high-acuity neonatal care, including:
- Ventilator management (AC/PC/SIMV/CPAP/BiPAP, high-frequency oscillation, nitric oxide)
- Bubble CPAP, HFNC, and surfactant administration
- UAC/UVC line management, arterial line monitoring, invasive hemodynamic monitoring
- Therapeutic hypothermia (cooling protocols), ICP monitoring
- Neonatal abstinence syndrome, NEC, meconium aspiration, and post-surgical care
- Phototherapy, developmental care, and family-centered support
Float: PRN float to pediatric/PICU/pedi ED may be required. Refusal to float may affect guaranteed hours.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years NICU experience; Level III experience strongly preferred
- Active RN license (compact license required at time of submission)
- Certifications: BLS, NRP
- Scrub color: Navy
Orientation: 12 hours
