Operating Room – Cardiac First Assistant
Position Overview
The facility's operating room is seeking an experienced Cardiac First Assistant to support a high-volume cardiac surgical program. You'll work in a busy OR managing 5–6 cardiac and thoracic cases per day, including coronary artery bypass grafts, valve replacements, and other cardiothoracic procedures.
Shift & Schedule
- On-call: Approximately one weeknight per week plus weekend call
- Guaranteed hours: 80 per two-week pay period
- Contract duration: 13 weeks
Requirements
- Certification: NBSTSA, NCCSA, or ABSA (CRNFA not required)
- Experience: 3–5 years as a First Assistant with cardiac specialty
- Core skills: Vein harvesting, radial artery harvesting, proficiency in cardiac surgical assistance
- License: West Virginia or Compact license required (pending license accepted at submission)
- References: Two manager or charge nurse references from the past two years
Important Notes
- Start timeline: Allow 60–90 days for facility credentialing; candidates must be available to start within this window
- Location: Permanent address must be within 100 miles of the facility (75–99 miles considered case-by-case)
- Scrubs: Provided
- Vaccines: Flu vaccine required (medical exemptions only); COVID-19 not required
- Orientation: Held every other Thursday
