Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit

Position Overview

The facility is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Progressive Care Unit (PCU). You will provide nursing care to moderate-acuity patients requiring closer monitoring than general medical-surgical floors but not ICU-level intervention. This is a 13-week contract position.

Shift & Schedule

• 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
• Typical patient load: 3–4 patients per shift

Key Responsibilities

• Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and vital signs; identify and respond promptly to changes in patient condition
• Assess and manage patients transitioning from ICU or at risk of clinical deterioration
• Administer medications, including select IV drips, per physician orders
• Collaborate with physicians, intensivists, and the interdisciplinary team on plan of care
• Respond to rapid response and code interventions as needed
• Provide patient and family education on condition, treatment, and recovery
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately
• Maintain infection control and fall prevention protocols
• Mentor and support other nursing staff as needed

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license in Kentucky (or compact license as applicable)
• Minimum 1 year of PCU or step-down experience
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• NIHSS certification required
• Experience with telemetry monitoring and moderate-acuity patient management

Preferred Qualifications

• BSN degree
• PCCN (Progressive Care Certified Nurse) certification
