Registered Nurse – Cardiothoracic ICU

Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Contract Duration: 13 weeks

About the Role

The facility's cardiothoracic ICU cares for critically ill patients recovering from open-heart surgery and other cardiac procedures. You'll provide direct, comprehensive nursing care to high-acuity patients requiring intensive monitoring, advanced life support equipment, and skilled clinical judgment.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver direct patient care with detailed assessments and ongoing monitoring of hemodynamically unstable patients
• Manage advanced equipment including ventilators, arterial lines, central lines, and hemodynamic monitors
• Administer medications including titratable vasoactive and sedation drips per physician orders
• Collaborate with intensivists, cardiologists, and the interdisciplinary team on individualized care plans
• Respond to rapid changes in patient condition and perform code interventions as needed
• Educate patients and families on treatment and recovery expectations
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the EMR
• Support infection control and safety protocols for vulnerable, high-acuity populations
• Contribute to unit quality improvement and evidence-based practice initiatives

Required Qualifications

• Active, unrestricted RN license (state or compact)
• ADN/ASN minimum; BSN preferred
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• 1+ years of ICU/critical care experience with cardiothoracic or post-operative cardiac patients
• Experience with ventilators, hemodynamic monitoring, and titratable drips
• CCRN certification preferred
