Operating Room Registered Nurse
Position Overview
The facility is seeking an experienced Operating Room (OR) Registered Nurse to join the surgical team on a 13-week contract. You'll work day shift (6:00 AM – 4:30 PM) and be available for call 25–30 hours per 6-week schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide circulating and/or scrub nursing support across multiple surgical specialties (general surgery, orthopedic, GYN, urology, ENT, and others)
- Perform pre-operative assessments; verify surgical site, consent, and procedure per protocol
- Prepare and maintain sterile field, instruments, and equipment
- Conduct accurate instrument, sponge, and needle counts before, during, and after procedures
- Monitor patient status and safety throughout surgical cases
- Manage supplies and equipment, ensuring availability and proper function
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and the surgical team for efficient case flow
- Assist with patient positioning, prepping, and post-operative handoff to recovery
- Document intraoperative care accurately, including counts, medications, and patient status
Requirements
- Active RN license (Kentucky or compact license)
- BLS and ACLS certification required
- NIHSS certification required
- Minimum 1+ years of general OR experience
- Ability to function in both circulating and scrub roles
- 2+ years of experience with the electronic health record system
- BSN preferred; ADN accepted per facility policy
