Emergency Room Nurse – 12-Hour Shifts
Position Overview
Join the emergency department at the facility in Long Beach, CA. This is a 13-week contract with a start date of November 9, 2026, offering 36 guaranteed hours per week.
Unit & Clinical Scope
The ER manages 55,000 patient visits annually, handling everything from minor urgent care to high-acuity trauma. You'll care for both adult and pediatric patients; critical pediatric cases are transferred to a nearby children's hospital. The facility is a Level 2 Trauma Center and a designated STEMI and CVA receiving center. The patient population includes individuals experiencing homelessness, substance abuse disorders, and low-income demographics.
Staffing & Ratios
- Patient load: 40–160 patients per day
- No separate psychiatric/seclusion rooms (2–3 psych patients per day managed in main ER)
- Charge nurse available (no patient assignment)
- Nursing aides, emergency medical aides, and a constant security sitter in the waiting area
- You'll read and interpret your own EKG strips at the central monitor station
Requirements
- License: Current RN license (BSN not required)
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS
- Experience: 3–5 years previous ED experience required
- Availability: Must be able to work every other weekend and 2 of 3 major holidays
Shift Options
Multiple 12-hour shift windows available; confirm your preferred time during onboarding (options range 0630–0700 end times).
Support & Resources
24/7 respiratory therapy and pharmacy support. RNs perform all lab draws; no IV team on site.
