Emergency Department RN — Night Shift | Ulysses, KS | 13-Week Contract
This Emergency Department position offers 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM) in a rural acute care setting. Every other weekend is required, or the equivalent of 6–9 weekend shifts within a six-week scheduling period. The contract runs 13 weeks with a guaranteed 36 hours per week, beginning late October 2026.
Unit Overview
The ED manages a moderate daily census of general emergency presentations including abdominal pain, chest pain, dyspnea, fever, headache, and extremity injuries. The unit runs lean — staffed with two RNs around the clock, no aides or paramedics on the floor. RNs draw their own labs, read their own cardiac monitor strips, and manage breathing treatments and EKGs during after-hours when respiratory therapy is on call. RNs are also expected to troubleshoot ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen equipment as needed.
Scheduling
- Self-scheduling and block scheduling available
- Minimum six weekend shifts per six-week schedule
- Holiday coverage required
- Float may be required in cases of extreme staffing need
- Hospital cancellation policy: up to 4 shifts per 13-week contract
Required Certifications
BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), PALS or ENPC, TNCC, NRP, NIHSS
Must-Have Experience
Active ED experience and NRP competency are essential. A valid driver's license is required; candidates must be within 60 miles of the facility.
Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs
Orientation: One week on-site; first-day modules may be completed remotely.
