Telemetry RN — 4W Telemetry Unit | Bakersfield, CA
13-Week Contract | Days | 12-Hour Shifts
This telemetry position covers a high-acuity acute care unit caring for a diverse and complex patient population. Candidates must be comfortable reading and interpreting all cardiac rhythms independently.
Shift & Schedule
- 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM, 12-hour shifts
- Every other weekend required (4 shifts per 4-week schedule; days: Sat/Sun)
- Holiday rotation participation required (1 major, 1 minor)
- Block scheduling considered if unit needs are met, not guaranteed
- Guaranteed 36 hours/week
Patient Population & Clinical Scope
- Post-pacer, new-onset AFib/RVR, stepdown from ICU, hemodialysis
- Strokes, TBI, sepsis, surgical and urology patients (including post-cystoscopy)
- Oncology patients requiring cardiac monitoring, high-acuity med-surg overflow
- Patients with PEG tubes, pressure injuries, nursing home transfers; some federal correctional patients
- CPAP/BiPAP management in coordination with Respiratory Therapy (24/7 on-site)
- No active cardiac surgical patients; chest pain transferred out
Required Certifications
- BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
Float Requirements
- Travelers float first; potential float to MedSurg, remote tele, ICU tele holds, or ED holds
Additional Details
- Scrub color: Navy blue (jacket and undershirt must be navy, white, or black)
- Floor-specific orientation: 1–2 shifts with a preceptor
- Nurse aides on unit; 24/7 pharmacy and respiratory therapy support
- Hospitalist/intensivist available on call after hours
- Must be available to report within 30 minutes if placed on standby/call
