Cardiac Telemetry / PCU – Night Shift | Merced, CA
13-Week Contract | 36 Hours Guaranteed per Week
This high-acuity cardiac telemetry position functions at a PCU/stepdown level of care. The unit manages a diverse cardiac and neurological patient population, and stroke certification is required — candidates must have hands-on experience caring for stroke patients.
Shift Details
- 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 12-hour nights
- 2 weekends per 4-week schedule
- Holidays rotate same as core staff (one major, two minors)
- No block or set scheduling accommodated
Clinical Scope
- Common diagnoses: post-CVA, CHF, respiratory failure, diabetes, hypertension, post-op, post-cardiac cath
- Non-titrating drips; heparin titration; no insulin drips
- Telemetry monitored remotely by monitor techs; nurses must independently read and interpret their own rhythm strips
- BiPAP management; hospitalist in-house 24/7; respiratory therapy and pharmacy available around the clock
- No IV team on-site; primary nursing model (nurse aides available but not always guaranteed)
- First to float to other medical-surgical telemetry floors
Requirements
- Prior telemetry, stepdown, or PCU experience required
- Active ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications
- Must be available for a Zoom interview if recommended after clinical review
