ICU Travel Nurse — Night Shift | Merced, CA
13-Week Contract | 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
This ICU travel position is a night shift opportunity at an acute care facility in Merced, CA, centrally located about two hours from San Francisco and Sacramento and close to Yosemite and several regional lakes — ideal for outdoor enthusiasts seeking affordable California living.
Unit Overview
The ICU manages a high-acuity patient population including sepsis, DKA, hyperglycemia management, COPD exacerbations, GI bleeds, CVA, post-surgical recovery, and cardiac cases including PCI. Respiratory therapy and pharmacy are available 24/7. Travelers should be comfortable with vasopressors (norepinephrine), sedation drips (Propofol, Versed), parenteral nutrition, and ventilator management using the ABCDE bundle. Nurses are responsible for reading and interpreting their own telemetry strips.
Schedule & Expectations
- 12-hour nights; 36 guaranteed hours per week
- 2 weekends per 4-week period; holidays per unit needs
- No block scheduling; this assignment must be your primary commitment
- Travelers are first to float — to telemetry, med-surg, and tele floors with a full patient load (4–5 patients)
- Standby response time: 30 minutes; standby cancellations count toward the cancellation policy
Orientation: 2 shifts in the ICU, 1 shift on the float floor
Requirements
- BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required
- CCRN and basic critical care course preferred
- Strong IV skills required
- Comfortable with vents and the ABCDE bundle
