Medical-Surgical Night Shift | Long Beach, CA | 13-Week Contract
This Medical-Surgical unit cares for a diverse patient population with moderate-to-high acuity, including patients with ia, COPD, diabetes, ESRD, cellulitis, GI complications, abdominal drains, and trauma-related injuries such as gunshot and stab wounds. Neuro presentations related to trauma are also common on this unit.
Shift & Schedule
- 12-hour nights (6:30 PM–7:00 AM)
- Every other weekend required
- Must be available for 2–3 major holidays; request time off should be kept to a minimum
Clinical Details
- Active drips include heparin and blood products
- Non-invasive respiratory support (BiPAP/CPAP) used overnight; no ventilators
- Hospitalist or intensivist in-house at all times
- Respiratory therapy and pharmacy support available 24/7
- Charge nurse on duty with no patient assignment
Float Requirements
- First to float; may be assigned to Medical-Surgical and Telemetry floors, as well as Rehab
- Strip reading skills required — candidates must be able to interpret cardiac rhythms when floating to Telemetry
Certifications & Requirements
- BLS required
- Chemo certification preferred
- Active CA RN license required

- Orientation: 1 preceptor shift
- Guaranteed hours: 36 per week
- Contract duration: 13 weeks (91 days)
- The facility may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment
