Emergency Room RN | Travel Contract | New York

This medical ED opportunity combines traditional emergency care with integrated behavioral health services, making it an ideal placement for an experienced ER nurse comfortable with a diverse, high-acuity patient population.

Shift & Schedule

• 4x12-hour shifts, rotating days and nights (11:00–23:00 / 19:00–07:00)
• Every other weekend required
• 13-week contract

Unit Overview

The ED manages approximately 40 visits per day across a mixed adult and pediatric population, from infants through geriatrics. A co-located Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program (CPEP) is staffed by ED nursing and PCT staff. The CPEP includes a medical evaluation space and an extended observation space; patients are triaged and medically cleared before entry. Staff rotate through the CPEP in block assignments (typically 6-hour blocks on days/mids; nights may cover the full 12 hours). Security is present in the ED at all times.

Patient Population & Clinical Scope

• Acute and chronic conditions including cardiac, respiratory, neurological, and behavioral health emergencies
• Procedures include , IV placement, blood product administration, ventilator management, central line care, procedural sedation, and 12-lead EKG acquisition
• Interdisciplinary support includes pharmacy, respiratory therapy, radiology, social services, and rapid response

Requirements

• Active New York RN license in hand at time of submission — required
• Minimum 1 year of ED experience
• Electronic charting experience — required
• ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, and PALS — required
• Candidates must live more than 75 miles from the facility
• Floating within the unit is expected
