Medical-Surgical Telemetry RN — Night Shift | Abingdon, VA

Contract: 13 weeks | Shift: Nights, 12-hour shifts (18:30–07:00), 3x12 or 4x12 schedule | Start: October 2026

This medical-surgical telemetry unit cares for adult and geriatric patients across a range of acute conditions, including sepsis, bacteremia, heart failure, renal failure (hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis), electrolyte imbalances, GI bleeds, diabetes, ia, chest pain observation, and pulmonary/cardiac presentations. The unit also manages COVID-positive patients on a designated sub-unit.

Clinical Skills Utilized:

• Telemetry monitoring (on-unit and remote), dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Central line blood draws, PICC line management, port access
• BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, tracheostomy care
• Heparin and IV insulin protocols, PCA management
• Blood product administration, wound care/wound vac
• Pre/post hemodialysis management, continuous bladder irrigation

Scheduling Details:

• Night shift: 18:30–07:00
• Rotating weekends and holidays required
• Floating required (PCU competencies preferred)
• No on-call requirement
• Census-based flex/cancellation possible on a biweekly basis

Required Certifications:

• AHA BLS and AHA ACLS (AHA-issued only)
• NIHSS

Requirements:

• Minimum 2 years of RN experience
• Must pass a Relias basic EKG assessment within 72 hours of offer acceptance (two attempts allowed)
• Must reside 100+ miles from the facility's service area
• Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
• COVID-19 vaccine not required

Orientation: Begins on Sundays; includes online modules and 60 hours total (16 hours non-billable).

Candidates should also expect to support nursing student clinical education as part of their role.
