Orthopedic/Medical-Surgical Overflow RN – Night Shift
Position Details
- Shift: 4×12 nights (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- Schedule: Every other weekend required; float within scope as needed
- Contract: 13 weeks
- Hours: Choose 36 or 48-hour weekly contract; overtime paid after 48 hours
- Location: Charleston, WV (must reside 100+ miles from facility; 75–99 miles considered case-by-case)
About the Unit
You'll work in a collaborative team nursing environment caring for adults (18+) recovering from orthopedic surgery, joint reconstruction, joint replacement, orthopedic trauma, and sports-related injuries. The unit also manages medical/surgical overflow patients. Remote telemetry monitoring is staffed by a dedicated tech off-unit.
What You'll Do
- Manage post-operative orthopedic and trauma patients
- Monitor telemetry and interpret dysrhythmias
- Administer and manage cardiac drips (Cardizem, heparin, nitro, argatroban, amiodarone, dopamine for renal perfusion)
- Initiate IVs; manage conscious sedation
- Operate and monitor CPMs, orthopats, wound vacs, hemovacs, and traction devices
- Collaborate with PT, respiratory, pharmacy, and rapid response teams
Requirements
- License: RN (WV or Compact; pending license accepted)
- Experience: Minimum 2 years RN; 1+ year in orthopedics/med-surg
- Certifications: BLS required; ACLS and NIHSS preferred
- Skills: Telemetry, IV placement, cardiac medication management, dysrhythmia recognition, orthopedic equipment
- Flu vaccine: Required (medical exemptions only)
Orientation: Every other Thursday and Friday; computer lab Thursday, facility badge/unit meet Friday morning.
