Med Surg
Med/Surg RN — Night Shift | Jackson, MS | 13-Week Contract
This Med/Surg travel opportunity places you across multiple general medical-surgical units caring for a diverse adult patient population. The units manage a broad range of diagnoses including congestive heart failure, diabetes, post-surgical recovery, trauma, acute kidney injury, sickle cell anemia, gastroparesis, and respiratory illnesses.
Shift & Schedule
- 12-hour nights, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- 36 guaranteed hours per week
- Every other weekend or approximately 2 weekends per month
- Holiday rotation with regular staff
- No on-call or standby requirement
Clinical Expectations
- Comfortable with central lines and chest tubes
- Heparin titration required; amiodarone may be initiated prior to patient transfer to a cardiac unit
- Telemetry capability on all units; central monitor station communicates findings to the bedside RN
- Respiratory therapy available for CPAP/BiPAP support
- Nurse aides present on all units
Float Requirement
All travelers float between Med/Surg units based on staffing needs. Higher-acuity patients are typically assigned to core staff.
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license in Mississippi (or compact)
- BLS certification
- High-acuity Med/Surg experience, including comfort with surgical patients, lines, and chest tubes
- Flu vaccine required (medical exemptions accepted with provider documentation)
- Fingerprinting required prior to start (in-person or remote options available — allow extra processing time for remote)
Dress Code
Solid-color scrubs in any color; professional appearance required.
Orientation
First-day administrative orientation followed by two preceptored shifts on the unit.
