Postpartum RN – Brooklyn, NY
Position Overview
The facility is seeking an experienced Postpartum RN to join the maternal and newborn care team. This is a 13-week contract position working day shift (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM).
Clinical Scope
You'll provide comprehensive nursing care to mothers recovering from vaginal and cesarean delivery. Responsibilities include:
- Maternal recovery assessments (fundal checks, lochia monitoring, incision and perineal care, pain management)
- Early detection and escalation of postpartum complications (hemorrhage, infection, preeclampsia)
- Newborn assessment and care in collaboration with the maternal-infant dyad
- Breastfeeding support and education
- Medication administration per physician orders
- Family education on postpartum recovery, newborn care, and discharge planning
- Documentation in the electronic health record
- Collaboration with OB physicians, lactation consultants, and interdisciplinary care teams
Required Qualifications
- Active New York State RN license
- Associate's degree in nursing (ASN/ADN) from an accredited program
- AHA BLS and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
- AHA ACLS certification
- Minimum 2 years of maternal and child health nursing experience
- Minimum 2 years of IV insertion, phlebotomy, and conscious sedation experience
- Minimum 1 year of postpartum nursing experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN)
- RNC-MNN (Maternal Newborn Nursing) certification
