Psychiatric Nurse – Night Shift

Position Overview

Join the mental health team at the facility in Kansas City, MO for a 13-week contract. This night shift role (7:00 PM–7:00 AM) offers 48 guaranteed hours per week across a multi-unit psychiatric setting.

About the Units

You'll float among five specialized psychiatric units based on staffing needs:

• ADOL: Adolescent patients ages 12–18
• Serenity & VINE: Lower-acuity adult units
• ITU: Higher-acuity adult unit serving patients with thought disorder diagnoses
• SRAD: Senior-focused psychiatric care

Key Responsibilities

• Assess mental health status and recognize psychiatric and behavioral disorders
• Develop and implement individualized care plans
• Administer psychiatric medications and monitor for side effects and adverse reactions
• Provide crisis intervention, de-escalation techniques, and therapeutic communication
• Monitor vital signs, mental status changes, and medication effects
• Support patients with empathy and active listening

Qualifications

• Current BLS certification
• Active CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification required
• Knowledge of psychotropic medications
• Strong crisis intervention and therapeutic communication skills

Scheduling

• 7:00 PM–7:00 AM, four 12-hour shifts per week
• Seven-day-a-week operations; weekends included
• Days off are not guaranteed unless specified in your contract
