ICU Travel Nurse – Night Shift | Sacramento, CA
13-Week Contract | 12-Hour Nights | 36 Guaranteed Hours/Week
This Medical/Surgical ICU opportunity is ideal for experienced critical care nurses comfortable managing high-acuity patients across a broad range of diagnoses and conditions.
Schedule & Logistics
- 12-hour nights, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
- Every other weekend required; minimum 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period
- First-to-float position; floating to other Sacramento-area facilities possible (mid-shift float is rare)
- Self-scheduling with manager approval; schedules posted 4 weeks out
- Orientation: 1–2 days on the floor with a preceptor
Clinical Scope
The ICU manages medical/surgical patients including non-STEMIs, CVA, multiorgan failure, sepsis, respiratory failure, and post-operative complications. Comfort care patients are routinely managed within the unit. Common bedside procedures include TEEs and bronchoscopies. Telemetry monitoring is required — candidates must be able to read and interpret EKG strips. Ventilator management is expected. Respiratory therapy and pharmacy support are available 24/7.
Requirements
- Active RN license in California (or compact equivalent)
- BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), NIHSS certifications
- Ability to read and interpret EKG strips
- Comfort with comfort care/end-of-life patient management
- Dysphagia (basic) exam required prior to acceptance
Additional Details
- Scrubs: Navy; undershirts must be navy, white, or black
- Holidays rotate with core staff; travelers are expected to work 2 of 3 major holidays
- Cancellation policy: up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment
- Charge nurse on unit; no nurse aide support
